ABOUT

Lesia is a visual artist currently residing in Milton, Ontario. An artistic journey of exploration and learning has directed her from the security of her representational watercolours to the surrender required for a more graphic style of abstract and non-objective art. Inspired by artists such as Cy Twombly, Nicholas de Staël and Gustav Klimt, her art has shifted to a more spontaneous and expressive style.

Driven by the adage “For every action, there is a reaction”, her intuitive approach begins without a specific plan; simply a pour of several colours that create patterns, thereby directing her forthcoming process.

An inherent love of detail, has revealed itself in current paintings which proliferate with spontaneous form, diversity of colour and intricacy.  Lesia uses acrylic paint to create the complex layers of design and open-weave of her current paintings which allow the viewer to look deeper into the layers of paint. She has exhibited her work in many juried exhibitions and group shows throughout Ontario and her work is held in collections across Canada.  Lesia is an elected member of the Society of Canadian Artists and the Colour and Form Society of Ontario.

STATEMENT

"I find abstract and non-objective painting to be both intriguing and infinite in possibility, not restraining myself to one particular style nor restrained by a singular perception. My work may allude to something recognizable but usually it simply forms the underpinnings for the viewers’ own interpretation.

The first pour of paint, the first stroke of colour directs the next, layering detail over paint, painting over detail, alternating this process until the painting communicates completion. The way I choose to utilize these techniques will constantly change, but it is change that leads me to new artistic exploration.

I strive to engage the viewer so that after standing back to observe the elemental parts, one will want to step closer and look beyond the surface of a contemplative work."
